The sense of smell has been prominent in our lives since the beginning of time. While aromatherapy alone is not enough to cause diseases, it is used as a complementary treatment. The benefits of aromatherapy can be divided into two parts: psychological and physical. Psychologically, aromatherapy stimulates our brain to sooth frazzled nerve, reduce depression and mental anxiety. Physically, when applied to the skin, aromatherapy has healing properties. When inhaled, the aromas provide relief from congestion.


One thing that you need to keep in mind is that the essential oils are very strong, and should not be used directly on the skin or inhaled in their concentrated form. Most of the aromatherapy products you will find in the market contain diluted quantities of essential oils.

The gentle healing nature of aromatherapy allows us to include it in our daily course of life. Aromatherapy can be a part of your life in the form of:

  • Bath products 
  • Perfumes 
  • Decoratives (like Candles & Potpourri) 
  • Household/ laundry cleaners 

Apart from these, aromatherapy is also used in combination with massage therapy and acupuncture.

While aromatherapy oils are easily available in the market without prescription, you need to be careful with their usage. People with the following conditions should avoid aromatherapy without consulting a doctor or a medical professional:
