What Is Graviola?

Graviola, or soursop is a broadleaf, flowering perennial tree native to Mexico, Cuba, and Central America. All its parts, including the leaves, fruit, and even the stem are used to make medicines. It belongs to the custard apple family but has a citrus flavor. It is said to be a cross between pineapple and strawberry.

The effectiveness of this fruit on these diseases lacks scientific proof. But we know for sure that Graviola has plenty of side effects!

The supporters of soursop say that the annonaceous acetogenins present in it can help combat the cancer cells since they may “potentially” have chemotherapeutic effects. The study states “alkaloids extracted from Graviola may cause neuronal dysfunction and degeneration leading to symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.”

2. Can Lead To Low Blood Pressure:
Graviola also causes dilation of blood vessels and low blood pressure. Although this is beneficial for those with high blood pressure, those without hypertension should be careful while taking this fruit.

3. Can Lead To Poisoning:
Graviola bark contains anonaine and anoniine, which are high in hydrocyanic acid. It is a colorless substance, which is considered poisonous.

4. Causes Nausea:
Consumption of large amounts of Graviola can cause sedation, nausea and vomiting

5. Danger Of Toxicity:
The consumption of Graviola leaves as herbal teas can also cause toxicity.

6. Drug Interaction:
Avoid the use of Graviola if you are taking anti-hypertensive, vasodilators, cardiac depressant drugs, anti-depressants or MAO inhibitors. The effect of the fruit can either increase or decrease the effect of these drugs.

7. Kills Good Bacteria:
Long-term use of Graviola can kill the useful bacteria in the digestive tract.

8. Can Cause Miscarriage:
Graviola consumption should be avoided by pregnant women as it can cause premature uterine contractions.

A concoction of Graviola is used to treat dysentery. If ingested by those without dysentery, it can cause constipation and dehydration.

10. Works As A Hallucinogen:
Those who consume large amounts of Graviola not only experience nerve changes, but also suffer from hallucinations. Now, hallucinations aren’t something that you want, do you?
